NS&I has awarded its outsourcing contract to Atos, in a deal estimated to save taxpayers £400 million.
The contract will see Atos deliver customer-facing and back office services to NS&I’s 25 million customers.
The contract will introduce new, efficient digital channels and accelerate the switch from more traditional sales channels such as post and telephone.
It will also allow NS&I to leverage its retail capabilities for its growing B2B division. The strong relationship between NS&I and Atos means our B2B clients will be able to benefit from our private sector capabilities and public sector knowledge.
NS&I first began outsourcing in 1999 in an attempt to reduce the cost of managing public sector services. Since then, NS&I has reduced operational costs by 55%, a cost saving of £530 million.
The Atos award followed a comprehensive, three-way tender that included Capita and Hewlett-Packard. Given the size of the contract, the Cabinet Office was involved and the NS&I Minister, Economic Secretary to the Treasury Sajid Javid MP, made the final decision.
