In 1999 NS&I outsourced its customer-facing operations to Atos (formerly Siemens), and it is estimated the contract will save the UK taxpayer over £1 billion by 2021. The partnership combined a trusted public sector organisation with the latest technology and systems. NS&I has invested considerably in people, processes and technology resulting in increased productivity and capabilities while maintaining high levels of customer service.
In 2010 NS&I Government Payment Services (NS&I GPS) was formed to offer the benefits of this investment to other government departments, creating savings for the taxpayer.

NS&I GPS supply leading-edge banking and payment solutions for government departments including the Home Office, HMRC and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ). For HMRC we deliver the Help to Save service. Under the Childcare Service ‘umbrella’ we work with HMRC to deliver Tax-Free Childcare and the 30 hours free childcare scheme.
As we are part of government, our ‘Crown to Crown’ relationship enables faster speed to market with early collaborative discussions to deliver services without the need for a lengthy procurement process.
